The Whole World is a Family

Camel Fair : Pushkar ( 15 Nov. - 23 Nov. 2018)

10 Days 9 Nights

A huge camel fair. During the 10 days before the full moon, 10,000 to 20,000 animals are sold or traded. The gigantic mela (the gathering) takes place in the sandy plain located to the south of the city, which transforms for the occasion into a formidable encampment. Camel races and competitions are organized.
Some beasts look like works of art: their coats are shaved according to geometrical movements, their necks are adorned with pearl necklaces, their nostrils lined with flowers and their make-up eyes. Men and women also share their most beautiful attractions: turbans of bright colors for some, shimmering silk saris and silver jewelry for others.
Magic and amusement rides amuse the children every year, while their fathers negotiate the price of the animals, and that the visitors wonder at the contest of mustaches, a masculine attribute of the highest importance. Further on, the inhabitants of Pushkar set up a big wheel in the heart of a space devoted to the funfair.
Pushkar, located 12 kilometers from Ajmer in Rajasthan, is the only Indian city where Brahma, the first god of the Hindu trinity and creator of the universe, is honored (the other two gods are Vishnu and Shiva).
